Very beautiful villa with gorgeous gardens
. Pool lovely. Had a lovely warm welcome from Helen and Steve. Alora is a 20 minute walk from the villa but it is a pleasant walk and offers a wide range of bars and restaurants. Malaga is easy to get to by train. Ronda is 1.5 hour drive on good roads. Can’t recommend this villa and it’s owners enough

This is the nicest villa we've stayed in. Everything provided, even pool towels. Helen and Steve go out of their way to help. If you're not hiring a car, and you're going during very hot weather, get Gonzalo (local taxi driver) to take you into town. It was also good having the train station in Alora, so we visited Malaga city which was great.

The property is exceptionally well cared for and the grounds are truly stunning. Inside the villa you have everything you need for your holiday. UK tv, air conditioning in every room (a real feature compared to many other properties), good Wi-Fi, comfortable furnishings and plenty of tools / gadgets. Outside, the gardens are really incredible and we haven’t seen anything like this elesewhere on the Costa del sol. Apart from the layout and attention to detail tha5 has been put into it, there is a huge pool which is maintained to a high standard, numerous sets of tables and chairs set around the property along with stunning views. The villa is completely fenced, private and has electric gates. Well worth the money and a must stay at property if you plan a holiday to this area.

I could simply say that Casa Mimosa is a beautiful villa set in a stunning garden with everything you could possibly require for your stay. Whilst that is absolutely true, it really doesn't do the place justice, because what Casa Mimosa really is is a well loved home. Clearly well loved by the owners, Helen and Steve, and certainly well loved by us during our all too short stay. We'd love to return. Highly recommended.

A spacious villa in beautiful gardens with a variety of different areas to sit or lie in the gardens or by the pool. Near to Alora town and plenty of places to visit, however the villa was so good we didnot want to leave it! Very helpful owners and a generous welcome pack. We look forward to staying there again.

This villa is in a lovely position across the valley from the historic castle. Stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The pool and terrace is very private and has full sun all day, it is an idyllic place to while away some hours. It's only a 4 minute drive to Alora where there are an range of restaurants and plenty to look at. The town is a maze of narrow roads and hidden courtyards which can be a bit tricky to navigate through, but it all adds to the charm of this unspoilt area. Once you've been exploring and sightseeing you get to come back to the lovely villa and pool. While we were staying (in May/June) the villa stayed cool despite the heat outside and we didn't need the air conditioning. If you want to eat-in, the kitchen has every conceivable utensil and pan you could possibly need and numerous places inside and out to sit and eat. The only noise is from the occasional aeroplane and a flock of goats being herded up and down a nearby road morning and evening. The owners, Helen and Steve, were very friendly and helpful and provided everything we needed. Overall Casa Mimosa exceeded our expectations in every way and we look forward to going back soon.

Stunning location, beautifully kept garden and pool, numerous places to sit, eat, relax. The house was immaculately clean with everything to hand, including kitchen spices and oils. We arrived to a beautiful hamper of fresh fruit. Helen and Stephen responded quickly during our stay if we needed any help with anything. The pool was enjoyed by all of us especially our youngest daughter. A good size for doing short laps or just for keeping cool! Garden is a plantsmans paradise! House was cool and comfortable, kitchen well equipped with everything you could possibly need; ensuite bathrooms for every bedroom, even the single bedroom, were really convenient. Quiet location away from the hubbub of the town, countryside sounds of the cooing doves and goats bells as they were herded up the hill; smells of jasmine wafting in the breeze, added to the whole unforgettable holiday.

This is the 5th villa that we have stayed in and by far the best ! The secure gardens are amazing. There's different spots to sit and chill, whether you want sun or shade. The pool area & surrounding gardens at night are lit up perfectly. So relaxing with a lovely breeze. There's Aircon in all rooms although we only needed it in the bedroom at night. No need for a 4 wheel drive to access the villa ( we have stayed in other villas that have said this but were very lenient with the truth!) Really can't fault this place !

Casa Mimosa was better than we thought it would be and the quality of service from Helen and Steve is 5*. Any queries we had after booking were dealt with efficiently and the one or two we had during our stay were sorted quickly too. Casa Mimosa was clean and comfortable, a real home from home with the very necessary air conditioning. I would make a cup of tea and sit and watch the sun come up over the mountains and listen to the valley come to life, a great way to start the day! There is a comprehensive information book with places to eat, places to visit. We would generally go to the town in the morning and enjoy a coffee watching the world go by. Very little English is spoken in Alora which encourages you to learn Spanish as you go along, there is no rush everyone sits and chats. It can be a bit hit and miss where you can eat as you never really knew where would be open, it just means you try somewhere else. Be prepared for hills, some are steep.... We were lucky to go to the Malaga Feria (fair) on Steve and Helen's recommendation. It was fantastic and well worth a visit. For a family of four with two teenage boys Casa Mimosa ticked all the boxes, the pool was big enough for them to mess about in, they had separate en suite rooms so no fighting over showers, plenty of seating areas and pool loungers. The choice of food in Alora kept everyone happy. De Knas is a good place to go until you familiarise yourself then after that be brave and just try. All in all a memorable break in a great property on the outskirts of a pretty and laid back village. We intend to return, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Casa Mimosa.

I was attracted to this villa by the good looking photos on this site along with the good specification of the interior and the locality close to Alora. I can honestly say that we were not dissapointed in the slightest. From our initial contact with Helen and Steve arranging the stay, completing payment, receiving directions, etc. was all handled quickly and efficiently with no problems along the way. We hired a car at Malaga airport and the drive out to the property was easy with helpful photos having been provided by Helen in order that we could locate the turning onto the track leading to the villa. About 40 minutes drive from the airport. Helen and Steve were there to welcome us and familiarise us with the property and give us some tips on the area (supermarkets, etc.). There is a fairly comprehensive guest book with recommendations to a number of restaurants (which we did not use much due to the great bbq weather). The property is beautiful, well maintained and well equipped. Great gardens, plenty of space and places to sit if you want a bit of shade or peace. The pool area is a sun trap and my two sons (in their 20's) and one girlfriend spent most of the week developing a good tan!! Small things that make a big difference have been included. There are two banks of 10 gang English plugs that have been wired into the electricity supply meaning you have no need to take loads of plug adaptors with you for all the electronic gadgets that fill our lives these days. The welcome pack including wine and beer (and maybe some other essentials!!) sets the tone of the holiday. Having Helen and Steve close (in the village) was nice in case of problems (we did not need their help fortunately). The only slight downside was the walk into the village which does include a pretty steep hill to get to the centre and is about a 20 minute walk. Once in Alora however it is a pretty white Spanish village with restaurants and bars tucked around every corner it seems. I would highly recommend Casa Mimosa for a holiday, particularly if you are looking to chill and relax as we were.

Truly a joy to arrive and stay in Helen & Steve's Casa Mimosa, excellent hosts and beautiful villa ideally situated in Alora, we weren't left wanting for anything. The villa has gorgeous gardens with numerous places to sit and relax to look out at the various beautiful vistas of the surrounding countryside of Alora, the swimming pool and area is well maintained and equipped for relaxing in and around, especially in the evenings with the garden lights turned on. Many thanks H & S, whenever we're heading to south of Spain again it will only be whenever you're place is available to stay in.

We arrived late at night and were welcomed by villa owners Helen and Steve, who were most helpful and informative, having left the personalized hamper of food and drink all ready for us. In the morning sun we were delighted with the gardens and mountain views. There are so many different places to sit and the hammocks were bliss. The villa is very homely, and the Wifi was appreciated by our teenage daughters. We should have brought some DVDs from home, as the UK TV channels were not always available. We enjoyed visiting Ronda, El Torcal (mountain-top rock formation) and the lakes near El Chorro (good for swimming). Otherwise we loved just relaxing at Casa Mimosa. The Sharif family, Berkshire, UK.

We stayed here for a week with our two twenty-something sons. It would be hard to find any fault - a lovely villa, with beautiful views, quietly situated and very peaceful. Spotlessly clean, and the screens meant that we could open all the doors and windows to keep cool, without any insects getting in. The pool and garden were beautifully maintained. We really appreciated that the kitchen was so well equipped, and that loads of store cupboard basics like oil/vinegar/spices etc were all provided, as well as a welcome pack of "essentials" including chilled beer and wine. Perfect! It is about a mile to walk into the little town for tapas, quite hilly but quiet roads. The train station is quite close, a taxi cost 10euros, and we took the train to Malaga and to Ronda for day-trips, both of which were really worthwhile. Helen and Steve were great, unobtrusively helpful, and the lift to the Supermarket on the first day was a real bonus - we didn't hire a car so stocked up completely for the week. Thoroughly recommended!

We stayed here for 11 nights last month, and although I had read all the positive reviews so was prepared for the villa to be great, we were still bowled over by how beautiful everything was. Helen and Steve were fantastic hosts making sure everything was ok and we knew our surroundings. There after they left us to enjoy their villa but were just a text away should we need to ask anything. This is a fantastic location with superb views, a large and beautiful garden with lots of options for relaxing in different locations. We had 3 children with us who all enjoyed the pool, the sky TV and excellent selection of DVDs. Absolutely everything you need is at your fingertips. We had a car which made things easier with the kids but the villa is close to alora where there is a train station. The town is walkable to though we didn't try it with a 3 year old and not much of a path. We rarely re-visit the same location but will definitely be back to the lovely casa mimosa and the beautiful Alora.

From our initial enquiry, right up until the moment of reluctant check-out, Helen and Steve proved over and over again to be attentive, professional and courteous hosts. They are clearly passionate about what they do...and they do it extremely well. The Villa is in outstanding order...spotlessly clean and well appointed with all kitchen mod cons, efficient air conditioning, and a wonderful pool...all set in immaculately maintained gardens. Alora is a lovely old town...and is just within walking distance of the Villa. A cold beer in one of the many bars in the town will certainly provide welcome reward at the end of a 20 minute walk...it makes the final uphill push well worth the effort! Restaurant choice in Alora is large and varied. Eateries of note, in my opinion, include Casa Abilio, Pizzeria Peli and De Knas in the town centre, and Don Joaquin and Los Caballos on the outskirts of town. Further afield, Gibraltar, Ronda, El Chorro, Malaga, and even Torremolinos are well worth a visit. If you are looking for a spotless property, impeccable customer service, and a slice of "Real Spain" far from the madding crowds...trust me, you need look no further.

My wife & I stayed at Casa Mimosa in mid September 2012 and fell in love with the place. We can only echo all the reviews below outlining how amazing the villa was, how great hosts Helen & Steve's were, including a trip to the supermarket which without their guidance you would not find. The villa is about a 30 min drive from the airport even with some traffic and a few missed turns. We had a car for the week but we spent most of the week just relaxing around the villa, taking in the sounds and sights of surrounding mountains from the comfort of the poolside. We loved listening to the distant donkey ee-ooring and its echoes on the mountains, the sounds of the cockerils shouting from sunrise each day and then late afternoons the neighbours riding home on horseback from working in the village. The villa is extremely well kitted out, all possible kitchen utensils. There are amazing dining facilities, entertainment facilities (Bose CD and DVD system, TV, Sky). We will definitely return for a week, probably once again going for a winter sun trip, we would not have been able to survive a 40 degree summer, although with aircon in every room and an amazing pool there are plenty of ways to keep cool. Next time we will explore surrounding towns and villages but again use the time to also relax around the villa as it really is a perfect getaway. Tip: if you like reading, do not take a suitcase of books like we did. There are several book cases filled with all sorts of books ranging from fiction to learning languages, cooking, buying homes, setting up businesses etc.

It's very hard to write an original review because as others have said it's pretty much been covered! From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome by Helen and Steve and after a sleepless night (travel lodge beds and kids in same room!) it was the perfect place just to stop everything and CHILL! The villa wants for nothing, we especially enjoyed using the orange juicer, the kids like that which is handy! Exceptionally clean, very tastefully decorated, a real home from home! We experienced quite a heatwave and discovered only in the last couple of days that sitting on the chair that's under the palm at the front of the house provides an amazing view across the valley plus a lovely coolish breeze! Was a real bonus not having to buy dishwasher or washing machine detergent, or loo rolls! Can recommend the ice cream parlour in Alora, can't remember name but it's the one with bright pink and orange facing. Nicest ice cream I have ever had! Trip to the lakes a must, hired a pedalo for 13 euros and had an hour of swimming, kids sliding off it, warm crystal clear water! It was up to 40 degrees in the shade at times so most of the time spent was in the pool or reading in the shade, and so many places to choose from where to sit! We had a trip to Gibraltar, recommend parking in the border town La Línea either in one of the larger fee paying car parks or what we did was park in a free beach bar one and walked the 20 minutes to the border control. From there a bus takes you to the cable car if you wish to see the Barbary macaques! One of the highlights for our holiday. We will definitely return to this villa, it's probably the nicest we have ever stayed in- well I would say for definite it is. We left some of our daughter's dresses hanging in a wardrobe and Helen very kindly sent these back to us! Great holiday all round, thank you!

We were lucky enough to spend a week at this lovely villa. A shame it could not have been longer. Helen and Steve gave us an amazing welcome, evening escorting us to the local supermarket! and were very helpful during our stay. Unlike many holiday rentals, this villa feels like a home, because it is a home. The difference is very apparent. It is very comfortable, with everything you could need. The kitchen is well-equipped and each of the 3 bedrooms has its own bathroom. The beds are on the firm side, but that may suit you. The pool and gardens are lovely and very secluded. You can tell that Helen & Steve have put a lot of effort into maintaining it. The villa is along a dirt/gravel track, about 1km from the town of Alora. It's a walkable distance for sure, although a little hilly, so not necessarily do-able for all. The welcome pack provided is great, with enough to keep you going if you arrive too late for a trip to the supermarket. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return to this villa if we are back in this region of Spain again. Take a trip to Ronda -we loved it!

Just back from a fantastic 2 week break at Casa Mimosa - we cannot recommend this villa highly enough and was the best place we have ever stayed. From the start, the prompt response to emails by Helen and Steve (H&S) gave us confidence that things would be well-organised and gave reassurance when handing over a lot of money to someone you don't know for somewhere you haven't seen! On arrival after midnight, Helen and Steve (and puppy) greeted us warmly and even took us on a little tour of Alora and showed us the location of the supermarket (which we would NEVER have found!) a few days later. The location of the villa is stunning and the 360 degree views are amazing - hills, mountains and countryside. The pictures on this site look amazing and we thought they might be exaggerated, but not at all - they actually don't do full justice to how gorgeous it is. You feel like you are in the grounds of a 5 star hotel - but it's all yours! The inside of the villa is great too - clean, comfortable and very well equipped, nicely furnished with comfy beds and sofas. I loved the all-round fly screens which allow cool breezes in but no scary bugs and mozzies through the night! The owners designed and made the stunning gardens themselves and you wonder how they keep everything so green in a very hot and dry climate. We could not fault anything about the villa. There are loads of little tables and chairs dotted around every corner so you always have your meals with a different lovely view and can always find a shady one. The lighting is really subtle and the pool and gardens look stunning lit up at night. H&S are spot on at respecting their visitors' privacy and on the day they clean the pool, they come very early so as not to disturb, but let you know so you are aware they will be around. The pool auto cleans all the time anyway and is spotless. We particularly loved turning off all the lights at night, lying on the sunbed with a glass of wine and watching the stars - there is no light pollution here so they are fantastic and very romantic! The electronic gates make you feel safe as it is quite remote, but the roads to it are fine and there are other villas quite nearby too and H&S only live 10 minutes away in Alora, which is a nice, friendly town, but not a dress up, big night out type place! You need to go to Malaga (easy by train from Alora) or Marbella (1 hr drive) for nightlife! We loved this villa and H&S are so friendly - we are going back next year!

It's rare to find a holiday property that ticks all the boxes but rest assured this one does. Is it as good as it looks? Better! Is it as good as it sounds? Better! Are we critical? You bet! For extra peace of mind Helen & Steve are nearby should you need anything which is challenging because they've covered all angles, we forget they're the owners because we've become friends owing to our second visit. A tip may be to book early as other guests are returning which speaks volumes Four of us (adults) had a peaceful chilled holiday yet still managed to achieve sightseeing without a car by using train, cheap taxi or walks into Alora. All in all a taste of the real Spain with top class accommodation and friendly hosts who will assist you with any questions/concerns right from the first e-mail
